A file of memoranda, graphs, and statistical information concerning the workings of the Lord President's Committee on domestic affairs during the Second World War. The documents discuss the prevalence of various diseases within the British population; attempts to improve the nutrition of Britain's youth by increasing the provision of school meals; and the committee's attempts to increase Britain's industrial workforce by recruiting a significant number of young people. The documents also cover the rationing of various key resources, including paper, meat, and rubber; policy on increasing the number of doctors and nurses available to the British armed forces; the supply of food to Britain from overseas; and the impact of an ongoing famine in India on Britain's food reserves. Other documents comment on the payment of pensions to the families of ex-servicemen; and the implementation of restrictions on the transportation of non-essential" goods on Britain's railways."
