True tales of the Navy. Now't else to it - by Capt Dorling DSO RN

1 Jan 1941

9 True Tales of The Navy 'Now't else to it by 'TAFFRAIL' (Captain Taprell Dorling, D.S.O., R.N.) He was an A.B. of the Royal Naval Patrol Service, a short, thick-set little man with large hairy hands and permanently crooked fingers. I met him on board a trawler. He was mine-sweeping in the last war and had been a deep- sea fisherman since boyhood. He was fishing during the twenty years of peace, and again volunteered for the Navy in 1939. What was his age, I asked. He grinned and scratched his grizzled head.
