PRODUCTIVITY CAMPAIGN 1949 Productivity pays and how.. 290 THIS FIRM MADE A CLEAN CUT IN COSTS A SCOTTISH FIRM manufacturing lawn mowers doesn't believe in letting the grass grow under its feet. Before the war it made 27 models. When planning post-war production, the directors asked themselves whether so many different ways of cutting grass were really necessary. The answer was, no. So they incorporated all the advantages of the wider range in nine models, reduced the number of components, and streamlined production methods to save time, machinery and materials, carrying out these plans with their employees' co-operation.
