Food Facts No.164 The potato field is a battle field too!

1 Jan 1943

259 The Potato field is a battle field too! FOOD FACTS Do you realise that the same piece of ground has to grow first potatoes and then (after the potatoes are lifted) next spring's green vegetables? The earlier the potatoes are lifted the more greens we are likely to get for people who cannot grow their own, and the way to get potatoes lifted early is to eat plenty of them at this time of the year. If you do this you are (1) eating good stuff while it is plentiful and cheap and fresh; (2) helping the farmer to help you later on with green vegetables; (3) helping to plan victory on the food front as well as helping the Forces to win their victories in the field of battle.
