1 Jan 1947

227 FUEL CRISIS TOWARDS THE WAY OUT 2,500,000 tons of coal to be saved by next October ONLY the utmost economy in the use of electricity and gas can save the 2,500,000 tons of coal needed by October. You are asked to cut down by a quarter the gas and electricity you use. How much did you use last summer? You can probably tell from your bills or meter card. If this is impossible your gas or electric showrooms will be glad to help. Do you read your meter regularly week by week? For people with slot meters it is easy; put in only 3 coins for every 4 used last summer.
