Food Facts No.161 Bottling fruit without sugar

1 Jan 1943

Preserve fruit NOW for the winter months ahead! A fortnight ago we described the Sterilizing method of bottling fruit without sugar. This week we describe the Oven method and the Campden method. It's a good plan to read through the whole instructions before you start bottling. Put into a moderate oven about 240°F. 1. Wash the jars thoroughly. 2. Pack the fruit tightly into the jars, filling almost to the top. 3. Place the jars in a very moderate oven (about 240°F.) on a piece of cardboard or several thicknesses of paper.
