From a doctor's diary. I don't believe it, Doctor

1 Jan 1943

99 From a doctor's diary This is based on a doctor's experience of cases of V.D. It has been carefully edited so that the people concerned shall not be recognised. "'I don't believe it, doctor' a friend said to me the other day. He did not believe what he'd read about the effect of untreated V.D., so I told him about a man I had seen recently in a mental hospital. The man is now 36. When he was 18 he left home and got mixed up with a bad crowd with far too much drinking and loose behaviour. As so often happens when people let themselves go like this, he contracted syphilis, but because he didn't dare to tell his doctor about it, he went to a quack.
