Keep on saving when the war's over? Why?

1 Jan 1945

KEEP ON SAVING WHEN THE WAR'S OVER ? WHY ? 251 Yes, we must keep on saving—for the needs of the war against the Jap and for reconstruction at home. Won't it be better to spend when the fighting men come back, and so create employment? No. The danger at present, when there are so many calls on our re- sources, is that there will be too much spending, not too little. For instance, we have to expand our export trade to pay for essential imports. Too much spending in this country will make this task harder.
