From a doctor's diary. Does a cure really take so long, doctor?

1 Jan 1943

101 From a doctor's diary This is based on a doctor's experience of cases of V.D. It has been carefully edited so that the people concerned shall not be recognised. "'...Does a cure really take so long, doctor?' So many patients ask me this especially when the symptoms have disappeared. But it is no good denying that the treatment of syphilis is a long job. With observation and tests for cure it takes two to three years. For gonorrhœa it is considerably shorter, especially now that new remedies have been discovered; the usual time, allowing for observation after treatment, is three months.
