Vital to the offensive. Women take over from men

1 Jan 1942

43 VITAL TO THE OFFENSIVE WOMEN TAKE OVER FROM MEN BALLOON COMING DOWN! A WAAF at the motor-winch that winds in the cable of a barrage-balloon. She has just completed the course on "winch, wire, and rope," and is now ready to take over from an R.A.F. man. The balloons are brought down regularly for repairs, occasionally to give our aircraft free passage. It's a grand life for anyone who is strong and fit and likes the open air. Thousands more women are wanted now to take over the balloon barrage.
