British industry becomes more scrap-conscious

1 Jan 1940

THE HIDDEN MILLION There's a million tons of scrap iron and steel hidden in works, factories, yards and outbuildings' all over the country. For scrap, unlike other things we've been prodigal with in the past, doesn't disappear! To-day we need that scrap. We're lucky to have it. But it's hidden and some of it is hidden on your premises. You've got as much as the next man, so turn it out. It means more guns and more shells for those guns. It means more steel for the raw materials and plant you may need soon.
