ANNEX LETTER DATED 17TH JULY FROM THE ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY TO THE LORD PRESENT OF THE COUNCIL. I have spoken to leading Free Churchmen, who are eager that a week-day may be appointed. I have consulted the Bishops of the Provinces of Canterbury, York and Wales, all of whom were quite ready for the arrangement and some of whom strongly supported it. I have also, with some difficulty, established contact with Cardinal Hinsley, who now mainly lives out of London, and who at first was inclined to prefer keeping to the Sunday; but on hearing the grounds of the proposal, changed over to agreement that a week-day might be appointed.
