Directive on Treatment of German Archives, Records & Documents Note by the Secretary, (U.S. Draft for Control Council)

1 Jul 1945

Copy of Extract from; CABINET DISTRIBUTION FROM POLITICAL ADVISER TO COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF, GERMANY (BERLIN) TO FOREIGN OFFICE Sir W. Strang No. 60 7th September, 1945. 5. Fifth item was United States draft directive on treatment of German archives, records and documents. The United Kingdom and Soviet members both asked that discussion should be deferred as they had not received instructions. United Kingdom member also suggested that the form of the draft directive was not entirely appropriate as it seemed illogical for four members of Control Council to issue instruction themselves in their capacity as Chefs de Cabinet in their respective zones.
