Berlin and East Germany: DDR/Burma

A file of correspondence concerning relations between East Germany and Burma. The documents cover the visit of the East German foreign minister, Otto Winzer, to Rangoon, where he held talks with leading Burmese politicians and visited places of interest. It is reported that Burma remained non-committal regarding East German requests for diplomatic recognition and an invitation to open an embassy in East Berlin. Other documents in the file cover a visit to Burma by Max Sefrin, the East German deputy prime minister and Minister of Health, for the opening of a sponsored exhibition; and the views of a West German diplomat on Burmese-East German relations.
