A file of correspondence and reports concerning financial claims against Czechoslovakia, and the restitution of Czechoslovak gold held since the Second World War. The documents cover the completion of negotiations for a financial settlement between the U.K. and Czechoslovakia for intergovernmental debt and private postwar claims; and arrangements for the return of Czechoslovak gold held by the Tripartite Commission, the transfer of which had previously been refused until the financial claims of the U.K. and the U.S. had been met. Other documents in the file discuss the recovery of Czechoslovak assets in the U.K. on behalf of the Treasury; the legal and logistical implications of transporting the gold to Switzerland, where it is to be prepositioned as requested by Czechoslovakia; and the refusal of the Czechoslovak authorities to sign a waiver to take responsibility for the gold while it is in transit. Drafts of the Anglo-Czechoslovak financial agreement are also included in the file.
