A file of memoranda, graphs, and statistical information concerning the workings of the Lord President's Committee on domestic affairs during the Second World War. The documents discuss the state of Britain's reserve stocks of food, fuel, and raw materials; a global shortage of various key cereals, particularly wheat; and the state of the British economy in the immediate aftermath of the end of the Second World War. The documents also cover the onset of the new British government's programme to nationalise various key industries, including the coal-mining industry; the mass demobilisation of the British armed forces after the cessation of hostilities; and attempts to find work and training for the newly demobilised ex-servicemen. Other documents comment on the committee's proposals to implement a new system of rent controls; a shortage in the supply of British domestic servants; and a series of proposed reforms to the British police force and fire service.
