A file of memoranda, graphs, and statistical information concerning the workings of the Lord President's Committee on domestic affairs during the Second World War. The documents discuss the payment of pensions to British ex-servicemen and their families; the wages paid to personnel in the British armed forces; and the possibility of utilising existing defence regulations to prohibit subversive organisations from carrying out illegal strikes in various British industries. The documents also cover the prices of various consumer goods; the ongoing improvement of Britain's reserve food, fuel, and raw material stocks, driven by a fall in the amount of shipping sunk by the enemy; and a range of proposals to overhaul the wage structure within the British coal mining industry. Other documents comment on a proposal to open a new aeronautical research institute in Britain; and planning for the aftermath of Operation Overlord, the upcoming Allied invasion of France.
