A file containing the minutes of meetings of the Lord President's Committee on domestic affairs during the Second World War. The committee addressed issues presented to it in memoranda on a range of topics including the relaxation of rationing; issues relating to the wages of the Civil Defence Services; reforms to the education system; the provision of accommodation for refugees; and the location of and training facilities for the post-war aeronautical industry. Other topics discussed include the practicalities of the restoration of bomb-damaged houses; the impact of flying bombs on industrial production; the relaxation of travel to liberated France; and precautions in case tube lines under the River Thames were hit by rockets. The committee also discussed regular reports on overseas trade, food supplies, the state of the coal industry, and the extension of Double Summer Time.
