A file containing the minutes of meetings of the Lord President's Committee on domestic affairs during the Second World War. Topics discussed include legislation on rent levels and on the liability for the rental of bomb-damaged properties; the import levels of newspapers and restrictions on their size; the sale of Reuters to British news corporations; and methods of providing financial aid to the British film industry. Other topics covered include the shortage of administrative personnel in government departments; issues with export surpluses in Australia and New Zealand; the concentration of industry to free up labour and factory space; and plans for government control of the construction industry. The committee also discussed their response to criticisms about government wage policy; economies in cardboard for tobacco products; and the proceedings of a conference setting up an International Wheat Advisory Committee. Regular reports of overseas trade, rationing, and levels of reserve stocks were also considered.
