1. HOME FOOD PRODUCTION. DRAFT PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT. In pursuance of W.M.(40) 291st. Conclusions, Minute 8(2), the Committee had before them a Joint Note by the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, the Secretary of State for Scotland, the Secretary of State for Home Affairs, and the Minister of Food (Paper F.P.(M)(40) 168) covering the draft of a public announcement on the new food production policy. In the course of discussion the Committee were reminded that as had been made clear to the War Cabinet, the necessary shipping for the import of 200,000 tons of fertilisers from the United States could only be made available at the expense of other items in the import programmes which, even apart from this, would have to suffer reduction.
