Save fuel for battle

1 Jan 1943

ISSUED 151 Fit fire bricks—Now is the time to begin your winter fuel-saving by fitting fire bricks at the back and sides of the grate. You will burn less fuel and still get all the heat you need. Ordinary bricks will do, but are not so effective as the proper fire bricks. In nearly every type of combination grate or kitchen range, fire bricks can be fitted on the side of the grate opposite the oven flue. Do not light a fire just for the sake of having a fire but only if there is no other way of keeping warm.
