We must save more fuel for battle!

1 Jan 1944

We must SAVE FUEL for Battle! THE GREAT ATTACK will call for more 25-pounders than ever before. Getting them there is just one tiny bit of the colossal task that the Services will have in hand. The more trains and ships devoted to it, the less coal there can be for our home fires, for the power stations, for the gas works. So we must use less coal, less electricity, less gas! How are we to manage? By having only one fire, lighting it late, keeping it small with fire bricks; by turning off the gas or the electricity the very instant it's not needed, by lagging the hot water pipes.
