Switch off the Electricity whenever you can

1 Jan 1941

403 Switch off the Electricity whenever you can for the factories COAL · COKE · GAS · ELECTRICITY · FUEL OIL · PARAFFIN Each day and every day make up your mind to save electricity. Use it with the most rigid economy. Then you'll be saving coal—for the factories, to increase production and shorten the war. ECONOMISE IN EVERY WAY YOU CAN Here are some examples: Switch fire 'down' or 'off' as soon as room is warm Try and do without your radiators and electric fires until tea-time Never leave a fire burning in an unoccupied room Do without a fire in your bedroom Don't waste 'a nice hot oven' on a single dish Use the 'retained heat' in oven and hotplates Scrap the wasteful pan—use the grill Use less hot water for baths and washing up Take your bath at night— not in the morning Wrap tanks, cylinders and hot pipes to avoid loss of heat Call at your Electricity or Gas Showroom or Coal Office for advice and leaflets on how to economise.
