WOULD THEY FIND THEM IN YOUR FACTORY? One of the Ministry's Regional Fuel Efficiency Committees analysed the reports of their visiting engineers to find the most common causes of fuel wastage in industrial steam generation and transmission. From the first 300 reports on inspections of boiler plants and pipe- work this is what they found: 150 235 instances of unlagged boilers and unlagged steam supply pipes; of damaged or defective lagging. 219 instances of steam leakage at pipe joints and valves; some small but many serious.
