our bread and butter knife

1 Jan 1947

365 Our bread and butter knife We can't eat coal, but it's our bread and butter, all the same. Half our food comes from abroad in exchange for the manufactured goods we export. If we don't deliver the goods, we can't expect other countries to go on sending us our food. Coal provides the power that runs the factories that make the goods, so COAL SHORTAGE means PRODUCTION SHORTAGE PRODUCTION SHORTAGE means FOOD SHORTAGE That's why everyone will suffer if our coal supply fails. WE'LL WORK AND WIN THROUGH Issued by His Majesty's Government.
