Report to the Nation No.24. 1948 Harvest Hopes. More farmhouse fare from our own countryside

1 Jan 1948

1948 HARVEST HOPES More farmhouse fare FROM OUR OWN COUNTRYSIDE BEFORE THE WAR about 30 per cent.* of our food came from our own farms. Now it's about 40 per cent., so this year our farms will bring to our tables a third as much again as before the war. Besides that, our farmers are now growing 95 per cent. of what their livestock eat instead of only 75 per cent. before the war. WHAT MUST BE DONE The size of our meals and how good they are —more than that, the whole future of our country—depends on the work we put into our farms.
