I must iron!

1 Jan 1947

SAVE ELECTRICITY AND GAS? BUT MY HUSBAND SAYS that if every housewife in Great Britain ironed for one minute less this week it would save enough electricity to knit thousands of pairs of nylons, to bake stacks of bricks, to sew hundreds of pairs of children's shoes. Let's save those minutes! Gas and electricity come from coal and the shortage of coal has Britain in a stranglehold. Greater production will help, but drastic reduction in home use of electricity and gas is needed too before the grip can be loosened.
