Fuel Crisis - towards the way out

1 Jan 1947

SAVE ELECTRICITY AND GAS? They can't tell me how to run a home! IT LOOKS to me as if the country's troubles with coal are just like a housewife's food problems, when the children's appetites keep growing and supplies simply won't go round. I mean you've only to look at the facts: people are eating up twice as much electricity and 50% more gas in their homes than in 1939, yet there's less coal to make them. Every woman with a family knows what to do when supplies run low. She goes slow. Above all, she sees that the lion's share goes to those who need it most.
