Report to the Nation No.15. What we are doing about our food

1 Jan 1948

381 REPORT TO THE NATION No. 15 What we are doing about OUR FOOD Last year nearly half our imported food came "on tick" from the dollar countries. We couldn't get it elsewhere because most of the other food-growing countries, hard hit by war, weren't growing enough to feed themselves. We couldn't pay for it because we weren't earning enough dollars. We're still not earning the dollars; but this year we're cutting our dollar food imports from half our total needs to a quarter, without lowering our standard of living.
