Four hand-fired Lancashire Boilers are installed, with steam jet, forced draught grates. The CO2 indicator, according to the Engineer, never had worked, was no good, and never would work. On inspection it was found that the instrument could quite easily be put in working order. The boiler attendant was evidently inexperienced. The boiler was only fired at long and irregular intervals.
