FOOD FACTS ENJOY HERRINGS WITHOUT BONES! BAKED HERRING FILLETS — a really delicious no-fat way to cook herrings. Bone the herrings (see directions below) and lay flat in a baking dish. Pour the following mixture over them (for four herrings): 2 table- spoons each vinegar and water, 1 level teasp. sugar, 1/2 level teasp. mixed spice, all mixed thoroughly. Sprinkle browned breadcrumbs over top. Bake in moderate oven 25 minutes. THERE'S A RIGHT AND WRONG WAY to bone herrings! The right way, you get all the bones out, without any difficulty.
