391 The Recruit EVERY NEW BUS for London Transport has to pass many tests and inspections before it can qualify for a road licence. The new bus, after the completion of the maker's tests, is driven to our Aldenham Works, where London Transport engineers give it a critical examination. After this it is paraded for the Ministry of Trans- port Certifying Officer. Each bus is inspected and strictly measured. The readings are checked against the official figures — its length, width, both inside and out, the distance between the seats, its height from the road and so on.
