All through the night

1 Jan 1950

'ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT' EVERY DAY of the month, each month of the year, British Road Services vehicles in Birmingham collect up to 100 tons of car components from local factories. During the evening the loads are transferred to 15-ton lorries for their journey south to a large motor works in Essex. At 11 p.m. the convoy, specially manned and with breakdown equipment, pulls out of Birming- ham and begins its long all-night journey to Essex. At a halfway point it is met by a Birmingham - bound convoy carrying steel, and the drivers change over.
