Who causes road accidents?

1 Jan 1948

369 Who causes road accidents? WHY were 166,199 people killed or injured on the roads in 1947? Remarkably few of these casualties were due to sheer bad luck. On the whole, accidents don't just happen, they are caused — caused by road-users. Not some classes of road-user, but all. The real point is: How can we make traffic safer? The answer is for each of us, whether driving, cycling, or on foot, to be on guard against our own mistakes, and to allow for other people's mistakes and difficulties. Road Navigation, based on the GET HOME Highway Code, is the technique of getting about SAFE AND easily and safely — and it applies to all road-users.
