A race against tide

1 Jan 1950

A RACE AGAINST TIDE DINNER HOUR was just ending at British Road Services' Wolverhampton Depot when the urgent call came. An engineering firm asked, "Could a consignment of machinery be taken to London Docks to catch a ship sailing on the morning tide?" Mr. C. went into action. With- in the hour, seven British Road Services' lorries were actually loading up with freight in the customer's yard! Fresh drivers took over at the Depot and by 5 p.m. the con- voy was London-bound with 70 tons of machinery in various sized cases.
