A file of newspaper adverts relating to the British government's post-war road safety publicity campaigns. The adverts address the need for motorists, motorcyclists, bicyclists, and pedestrians to be cautious on the road by checking brakes, lighting, and mirrors, by avoiding overtaking or holding on to other vehicles, by taking extra precautions in difficult weather conditions, and by allowing extra time at pedestrian crossings. Other topics covered include the issue of heavier post-war traffic; and the need for teachers and parents to educate children on the Kerb Drill to prevent deaths whilst crossing the road. Publicity campaigns represented in the file include the Kerb Drill campaign; the Learn the Highway Code campaign; the Carelessness Kills campaign; and the Keep Death off the Road campaign, which features stories of incidents that resulted in deaths and injuries, and profiles of victims who will be killed in the future.
