Sir, I am directed by the Duke of Devonshire to acknowledge the receipt of your letter (C.6396/5733/18) of the 20th April, enclosing a copy of a Note from the German Ambassador regarding the treatment of concessions granted by the former Government of German East Africa. 2. As Lord Curzon is aware, the policy described in the Tote to the German Ambassador of the land September 1922 was adopted, with the concurrence of the Governments of the Commonwealth of Australia and New Zealand, as a common policy for Mandated Territories generally and was communicated to the Japanese Government, who had asked for guidance in dealing with concessions in the territories mandated to Japan (vide your letter C 15468/2558/18) of the 12th August, 1921 and previous correspondence). The Union Government have also adopted a similar policy as regards concessions granted by the former Government of South West Africa. THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE, FOREIGN OFFICE.
