My Lord, I have the honour to transmit to Your Lordship herewith copy of a letter from the Reparation Commission to the Conference of Ambassadors regarding the application of Ar- ticles 254 and 256 of the Treaty of Versailles. The present position appears to be as follows: Under Articles 254 and 256 of the Treaty of Versailles Denmark takes over a share of the German debt and such Ger- man property in Schleswig as defined in Article 256. All payments made by Denmark to Germany as a result of this trans- fer are paid not to the German Government but to the Repara- tion Commission. Any other German property not covered by Article 256, such as Duke Gunther's estates and the property of the pro- vince of Schleswig-Holstein must be the subject of special arrangements and any payments in these cases till he made direct to the German Government and not to the Reparation Commission. By arrangement with the Reparation Commissions the Da- nish Government have now taken over their share of the Ger- man debt (Article 254) and certain German property as de- fined in Article 256, and in return have paid a lump sum to the Reparation Commission. its following The Right Honourable The Earl Curzon of Kedleston, K.G., P.C. etc., etc., etc.
