44 87 STOCKHOLM No. 928 C 115 3 JAN 1921 December 23. 1920 I have the honour to transmit to Your Lordship My Lord, herewith copy of an application which the Acting Consul General at Gothenburg has received from a Mr. F.H. Waidelé, a Swedish subject, asking whether His Majesty's Consulate General would give a guarantee that the purchase by him of a property belonging to a German in the Tanganyika Territory, if effected, would be recognised by the British Authorties. I have informed Mr. Browne that I am not in a position to furnish information with regard to the conditions under which German subjects may be allowed to dispose of their property in the Territory, but that I would refer the matter to Your Lordship on the receipt of further particulars with regard to the intending purchaser. Mr. Browne states in reply that Mr. Waidelé is a Swedish subject, and the manager of the leading music shop in Gothenburg with a branch in Malmö, of which his father Mr. Aug. Waidelé is the owner. The latter's income is stated to be about £2,500, and that of his son about £330. Mr. Waidelé is awaiting details of the property for sale and they will be communicated in due course to the Acting Consul General. Mr. Waidelé's intentions appear to be to appoint a manager of the property for the present, if he decides to purchase, and probably to go there himself at a later date. The Right Honourable, Earl Curzon of Kedleston, K.G., etc., etc., etc.
