The reserve stocks of WHEAT AND FLOUR on August 24th exceeded the previous (June 29th) maximum by 39,000 tons, and represented 16.2 weeks' requirements of flour. The upward movement in the stocks of MAIZE AND MAIZE MEAL and of OILCAKES AND MEALS continues. Stocks of MEAT are being maintained, but those of BACON AND HAM are declining. Higher imports during the week ended August 24th retarded the downward movement in the stocks of SUGAR and resulted in an increase in the stocks of TEA Distribution of BUTTER continued at a high level in the week ended August 24th, and stocks declined by a further 4,400 tons.
