Broadly speaking it may be taken that a ratio of 1 : 2 : 1 of nitrogen, phosphoric acid and potash represents the balanced need for fertilisers in the United Kingdom, and that of these three, phosphoric acid is the determining factor. Bearing in mind the purchasing power of farmers and allowing for supply possibilities and manufacturing capacity in this country, we propose that for the three years now in question targets of 200,000 tons, 400,000 tons and 200,000 tons for nitrogen, phosphoric acid and potash respectively should be aimed at.
