SERVICE PAY AND ALLOWANCES. Memorandum by the Chancellor of the Exchequer.

4 Jul 1944

The other alternative would be to proceed on the principle which was in fact proposed by Mr. Turton in the discussions, of assimilating the rules for sick and wounded officers alike, and to have one maximum period to cover all these classes of absence. I have some preference for this second alternative, since the continuation of the present distinction between wounds (with which, as now, attributable injuries would have to be included) and attributable sickness, seems likely to give rise to a continuance of the present complaints.
