of /at 4. DILUTION WITH BARLEY. Next to rye, barley is the most desirable dilutent. I am advised that barley flour could be used in national flour to the extent of 7%. The barley crop is at present officially estimated at 226,000 tons larger than in 1941. I understand that, after providing for all market demands, some 463,000 tons are likely to be used for seeding and feeding on farms in 1942-43. It however, been an understanding between the Ministry of Food and and Agriculture Departments that, if the quantity of barley offered by farmers was likely to fall short of the needs for food purposes, an Order should be introduced, requiring farmers to offer for sale all sound barley not intended for seed.
