At their meeting on the 15th October, 1943, the Committee had recorded the view that the evidence so far available showed that the general situation as regards the employment in industry of mothers during the periods immediately before and after child-birth was satisfactory and that there was no justification for taking special measures on this point, in advance of general measures for the improvement of our social security services.
