MEMORANDUM. Question to be Settled. 1. The Military Training Act was passed on 26th May 1939 for the purpose of enabling men to be called up at the age of 20 for six months military training. The Act was to remain in force for three years and then expire, subject to a provision whereby, upon an Address by each House of Parliament, on Order in Council might be made continuing its operation for a year at a time. On the outbreak of war Parliament enacted the National Service (Armed Forces) Act which superseded the Military Training Act and expressly provided that it should not operate for the duration of the emergency.
