I. The new schedule and the cost of living index. 2. It will be convenient to begin by attempting to estimate the extent to which, in the absence of subsidies or changes in distributors' margins, the schedule authorised for 1939-40 will cause an increase in the cost of living. The following table which has been drawn up by the Ministry of Food shows (a) the changes in retail prices consequential upon the new order and (b) the resultant changes in the cost of living index. Increase in Price Cost-of-Living Points.
