A file of summaries of Inter-Service Intelligence reports presented to the Joint Intelligence Sub-Committee (JIC). The JIC was formed of representatives from the intelligence services, the armed services, and the Foreign Office. Its purpose was to assess military, security, and foreign policy requirements and coordinate Britain’s intelligence organisations accordingly. Topics covered in the Inter-Service Intelligence reports include the progress of the German invasion of the Soviet Union; Japanese military operations in China and the Pacific; German trade relations with Sweden and Spain; the shipping activities of neutral countries; German relations with other Axis powers, including Italy and Romania; the strength of German air raids on the United Kingdom; the progress of the German war effort, including problems in the supply of war materials such as oil; and conditions in occupied Europe.
