Japanese Intentions in Burma before 1944 Monsoon. Note by the Secretary

1 Jan 1944

(b) The unit at (a) (ii), though having its main base in Central Burma, will probably operate from an advanced base in Upper Burma, such as Loiwing. The ground signals network in Upper Burma (Kawlin, Indaw, Bhamo, Loiwing) has recently been extended, giving better fighter control. (c) Japanese fighters painted black (the normal camouflage for aircraft operating at night) have recently been reported on the air ferry route. During the past week there have been active in North Burma a small number of twinengined fighters from a unit based at Rangoon which trained some time ago for directing single-engined fighters in night interception.
