the PHILIPPINES. The Japanese have already withdrawn northwards to LUZON nearly all their air force units previously based on MINDANAO. When the PHILIPPINES are lost all the surviving air forces from the PHILIPPINES will almost certainly be withdrawn northwards for the further defence of FORMOSA and CHINA. In particular we should expect to see a concentration of air forces along the South China coast where they would be available to resist an Allied assault either on CHINA or on FORMOSA. Even if the Japanese air forces at present in South East Asia and the N.E.I.
