3 ANNEX. EFFECTS OF THE BOMBING OFFENSIVE ON THE GERMAN WAR EFFORT. NOTE.—This report is concerned primarily with the effects on the German war effort of our bombing offensive in the first quarter of 1944. Since. however, its purpose is also to show the cumulative effect of the bombing. it takes account, where relevant, of the effects of bombing in earlier months. Summary of Operations. A. Night attacks by R.A.F. Bomber Command. 1. The weight of Bomber Command's offensive which had declined to 36,100 tons in the fourth quarter rose to over 50,000 tons in the first quarter of 1944.
